Uhhhmm... Delicious Pizza

Lately I have really been into food pictures with rear lighting like this. You see a lot of perfectly-lit, all around the food pictures, but I think this technique makes a great organic effect that you see less often. Of course this wouldn't work with all subjects. The fact that this is paired with the wood textures beneath the pizza, and that pizza itself has such an organic shape, makes this shot really work.

I love how the backlighting creates the shadows on the crust, so you can really see the textures of it. On a food with such surface, it really makes it easy to capture how appetizing it looks.

The suggestion I would make when using this type of lighting is watching your highlights. The reflection of light on the cheese closer to the light source is a bit too intense. This causes the photo to have lost detail in those sections of the pizza, and can also be distracting to the eye. The blur on that part of the pizza is great, but the highlights in that area really need to be toned down. The rest of the exposure of the image, however, I think is great and has a really solid effect for the photo as a whole.
